JOB TITLE: CHIEF OF POLICE

Hamilton, MO

(Must have a valid driver’s license and P.O.S.T. certification)

  • Patrol – Must be familiar with every part of the Must know every street name, city limit boundaries, and business locations.

  • Protect the citizens by preventing crime, enforcing laws, apprehending suspects, and monitoring traffic
  • Prevent crime by explaining and enforcing federal, state, and local laws and ordinances
  • Conduct criminal Prepare precise and detailed police reports for prosecution. Collect evidence and interview victims, witnesses, and suspects. Determine probable cause in investigations and make arrest. Ensure subjects that are arrested have been properly searched.
  • Testify in court proceedings
  • Serve court orders, including arrest warrants
  • Process DWI arrests
  • Work traffic crashes and complete crash reports
  • Complete nightly business checks
  • Respond to medical Must be CPR and First Aid qualified to act as the first responder for the city, until Emergency Services arrive
  • Properly care for, maintain, and operate a patrol Properly care for duty equipment.
  • Escort funeral processions
  • Make arrests and transport arrests to the jail
  • Be LIVESCAN fingerprint certified and be able to fingerprint arrest(s)
  • Complete the required annual continuing education trainings
  • Assist with animal related complaints
  • Keep a detailed daily activity log
  • Assist Code Enforcement with nuisance
  • Assist Children’s Division and the Juvenile Office
  • Supervise urine testing when necessary for Supervision Services (bond/probation office)
  • Successfully complete yearly firearms qualifications for duty weapon (Glock .40 caliber), 12 gauge shotgun, AR-1S, & Less lethal shotgun (bean bag rounds).
  • Successfully complete TASER certification every 2 years
  • Successfully complete lntox DMT (breathalyzer) certification every 2 years
  • Know Police 10 Codes and be able to communicate with the dispatch center
  • Respond to FIRE and EMS Provide updated information to dispatch to be relayed to fire and ems while they respond
    • Must be able to give death notifications when necessary
    • Investigate deaths and assist coroners
    • Enforce curfew
    • Contact semi drivers at on and off ramps and enforce the no parking ordinance at that location
    • Patrol bus stops and schools while school is in session, and do random walk-throughs of the schools while school is in session

    CHIEF OF POLICE DUTIES INCLUDE:

    • Responsible for hiring and termination (if necessary)
    • Review all incident and crash reports and make final approval
    • Review citations and make final approval
    • Prepare prosecutor report Deliver citations and packets to prosecutor
    • Complete and submit monthly NIBRS (National Incident-Based Reporting System) and UOF (Use of Force) reports
    • Flex work schedule to accommodate officers time off, including holidays, dayshift, nightshift, weekdays, and weekends
    • Supervise all officers and assist with their job duties
    • Be the Field Training Officer for new officers when the Corporal & Sergeant are not available
    • Complete random equipment and patrol vehicle checks
    • Issue UTV/ATV/Golf Cart permits
    • On Call Supervisor every day and at all times
    • Complete Monthly work schedule
    • Complete payroll and deliver to City Clerk
    • Prepare DWI packets and send to Department of Revenue
    • Complete monthly press release
    • Prepare Incident Reports for Code Enforcement and deliver to the prosecutor
    • Handles citizen complaints and officer complaints
    • Handles disciplinary actions when necessary
      • Deliver evidence to the MSHP crime lab
      • Uploads all in-car and body camera video and makes copies for the prosecutor
      • Bailiff for Municipal Court proceedings
      • LIVESCAN INSTRUCTOR – Site Administrator for Caldwell Certifies all new hires (officers and deputies) to operate the Livescan. Also provides training and re-certification every 2 years.
      • Responsible for the overall operation of the Hamilton Police Department Investigator for all sex crimes, specifically child sex crimes. Sets up forensic interviews, attends forensic interviews, and prepares detailed reports for

        -Attend monthly case reviews at the prosecutor’s office regarding crimes involving children, with the Prosecutor, Juvenile Officer, Forensic Interviewer, Children’s Division worker, Child Advocacy Counselor, and Sheriff’s Department Detectives
